Worldwide Photowalk
Back on July 24th, Scott Kelby had his 3rd annual Worldwide Photowalk. This year, over 1100 walks were held worldwide, with over 33,000 photographers taking part.
Andrea and I participated in this last year, taking the walk around Columbus’ Short North area, and had a lot of fun. This year, we wanted to travel just a bit, so we headed to Cincinnati, Ohio. Making the trip even better was David Ziser was leading the walk. I have watched many of his training videos, read his book Captured by the Light, and been to one of his seminars. To say I was excited to be on the walk with him would be an understatement.
The day was a hot one. Thank goodness for the breeze that we had that day. For those familiar with Cincinnati, we started off at Fountain Square, worked our way over to P&G, down to Third Street, then across the river over the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge, ending up at Chez Nora’s in Covington for a wonderful lunch. Of course, our car was still at Fountain Square, so that meant a walk back as well, with a side trip to visit the Cincinnati Reds gift shop.
It’s always good to get out and take a walk like these. Gives you something different to shoot besides what you shoot all the time. It helps get you out of a rut, to look at things differently, maybe even come up with some new ideas for the future. I encourage everyone to just get out and do something out of the ordinary. You’ll never know what you’ll find out there.
I’ve included a few of the pictures I took while on the walk. I hope you enjoy them.

Last weekend, we got to do the Wedding of Beth and Greg Marshall. It was a beautiful ceremony, but one that had many worries before it ever took place.
I’ve know Beth for over 30 years, back when she was just my girlfriend’s annoying little sister. She has grown up to be a wonderful woman and mother. When she got engaged two years ago, she didn’t ask, but told me we were doing the photography for her wedding.
She also told us that our son, Albert, was going to be in the wedding as well, as the ring bearer. All I could foresee was disaster looming. But, as the saying goes, what the Bride wants, the Bride gets.
As the big day drew closer and closer, rain was in the forecast. Rain is never good on a wedding day, especially if your wedding is an outdoor event, like this one was going to be. Cincinnati’s Ault Park is a beautiful place to have a wedding, and they have put on enough weddings there that they know how to deal with it, but it was not something any of us were looking forward to. Lucky for all of us, the rain moved through, and left us with a great evening.
I’ve included a few pictures here to show what we can do for your big day. Getting married soon? Get in touch with us and we will help you with your photography needs for the big day!

Its not just the real estate business that location is important. The right location can make the perfect background in portrait photography as well. This weekend we went down to an old abandoned water treatment facility. The building is known for it’s massive amounts of graffiti. Literally, every wall inside the building, and most of the ones outside as well, are covered in spray can art.
Beth was our model. We ave known Beth for years, as she used to be in the same Marching Band that our children were and are in. She wanted to check the place out as well, so it seemed like a perfect fit.
We spent way more time there then we had planned on, just checking the place out. It is definitely some place I would like to check back out again.
Do you know of an interesting location? Let me know, and we can work on getting your portraits taken in your favorite location!

So you’ve scheduled your appointment, you’ve had your pictures taken, and you are asking why cant I have my pictures right now? This is the digital age, right?
There is a lot that goes on from the time photographer leaves the session until you see the photos again. Usually, there is a look and feel that the photographer is going for when he shoots the pictures. Sometimes, once he or shes the raw image, something else comes to mind. And occasionally, you will have seen some of the photographers other work, and would like a certain ‘look’ that you rememeber applied to one of your photos.
All these things take a little time. Rest assured, we do everything we can to make sure your portraits are the best they can be when you finally see them. Contact us, and see how we can make you say “WOW!”

There are opportunities to always try and better your photography. All you have to do is take advantage of them. Let me point out that I am not the best at following my own advice, but I did yesterday. Less than 10 miles from my house is the Franklin Park Conservatory. There is always something there to photography and work on your skills.
The current special attraction is one of my favorites, the Orchid Forest, where the place is flooded with orchids of all colors. I used just about every lens in my arsenal as I tried to get the look I wanted, the right amount of bokeh, the perfect colors in the back ground, and so forth.
I also used the time to play with a couple of other techniques, trying to learn all there is to my camera. That is the key, to know just what it is that your camera can do, and can not do.
We have a membership to the Conservatory, so we can pop in whenever we have the time. We do this for the zoo as well. Besides it being a great place to visit for the family, it is also a great way to get out and shoot for a few hours. I highly recommend you do the same in your area.

So what exactly does Holland Photography do? The obvious answer is photography, but mainly portrait photography. This year, we are branching out to weddings as well.
We are equipped to do both indoor and outdoor portraits, and can come to your location as well. We are firm believers that people are more relaxed in their own surroundings rather than in a studio. Relaxed people make better pictures. Plus, if you have children, especially small children, it is easier to keep them happy if they know where everything is.
We prefer to do outdoor shots, as mother nature gives us much better backgrounds than indoors, but if you have that special place in your house that you would like to have in your portraits, by all means let us know and we will do our best to make that part of your pictures.
If you are interested in a portrait session, just drop us an email and we can work out the details. We can be reached at mark@hollandphotography.net.
